JOIN US IN CELEBRATING THE 25th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MWCEA
In 1984 the Maryland Workers' Compensation Educational Association [MWCEA] was founded by The Honorable Charles J. Krysiak, who was Chairman of the Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission from 1979 until his retirement in 1999.
With regard to the formation of the MWCEA, prior to 1984 Chairman Krysiak had attended several educational conferences in other states. Upon his return to Maryland he decided a similar type of educational event should be held in our state.
In 1983-1984 Chairman Krysiak brought together a group of attorneys and suggested they develop an educational program similar to the ones he had attended. Marie Hampton, Public Affairs Officer for the Office of Public Information and Education of the Workers' Compensation Commission, was requested to assist the group. At that time the Maryland Workers' Compensation Educational Association was formed. Ms. Hampton functioned as the conference organizer or the equivalent of the MWCEA's first Executive Director. An educational program was planned and the first conference was held in 1984 at the Carousel Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland.
By 2008 attendance at the conference had grown to more than 700 registrants, 70 exhibitors, and numerous sponsors. Attendees include The Chairman of the Workers' Compensation Commission and the presiding Commissioners, Legislative Representatives, claims professionals, claimant and defense attorneys, vocational rehabilitation providers, and medical professionals as well as those who provide ancillary services including private investigators and medical review professionals.
As we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the MWCEA we are acknowledging that it has become a mainstay of the workers' compensation community, providing a forum for all parties to exchange views, ideas, and information.
Please join us in extending our gratitude to The Honorable Charles J. Krysiak [Deceased] as the Founder of the MWCEA, who is survived by his wife and current Delegate Carolyn Krysiak. We extend our gratitude to the early Presidents and organizers including: Joe Harlan [Deceased]; Bruce Ingerman; Mark Vincent; Edward Petrick [Deceased]; and Marie Hampton who served as the equivalent of the Executive Director from 1984 until 1995. Ms. Hampton was followed by Chris Costello, who served as the Executive Director from 1995 until April of 2009. For the 2009 MWCEA Conference our Executive Director is Andrea Ball.
Program Highlights |
| As with every program since its creation in 1984, Maryland Workers' Compensation Educational Association [MWCEA] brings the Community together to facilitate dialogue among practitioners and to improve communication and cooperation in the Maryland Workers' Compensation Community.
This year join us in celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the MWCEA. In looking back at the rich history of the organization we want to recognize the Founder and the entire group of Presidents of the MWCEA.
The MWCEA Conference provides all professionals involved in the field of workers' compensation and related areas with an excellent
educational program. The educational sessions are presented by the most respected professionals in their areas of practice. Sessions will focus on the current trends, emerging issues, and challenges practitioners in workers' compensation are expected to manage. If you are involved in any aspect of Maryland Workers' Compensation, this is an outstanding educational opportunity. |
