FRESHMAN ORIENTATION
Starting on the Right Foot
Our Workers' Compensation College Program Begins
A Maryland employee is injured and an Employee's Claim Form is filed. What are the expectations and duties of a Claim Professional as well as a Claimant's Attorney, how can that person undertake those investigative duties and what, if any, resources, are available to her to begin her investigation? This session will set the stage for the next two days, providing some of the essential facts to continue our "studies". This panel will focus on initial investigation of a loss, the personnel involved in that investigation and additional resources available to try "to get to the bottom of the story".

ETHICS 101
Now that medical treatment is underway for the compensable injury, we will explore how the parties' perspectives affect the provision of reasonable and necessary medical care and treatment. Who is allowed to select medical care providers and direct the level of medical care provided by selecting diagnostic facilities, therapy and medical providers, and approving or denying certain treatments? How does the NCM coordinate treatment on behalf of the injured worker while addressing potentially conflicting interests between the employer/insurers' perspective and the claimant and claimant attorneys' perspective without compromising ethical service provision.
