FUTURE MEDICAL CARE - Braces, Mobility Devices and Adaptive Equipment

Life after the catastrophic injury will require numerous modifications and accommodations for the injured worker. The necessity for continued medical care is only one of the issues that will confront the worker. In addition to the expected future medical care, this session will explore what is available to help the injured worker navigate the home and work environment, from wheelchairs and modified vehicles to home modifications.

The final step of the process at the Commission is determination of permanency. This segment will address evaluation of the catastrophically injured employee. Discussion will include how the physician conducts the evaluation and how the parties address disability versus impairment.

This break-out session will address special considerations when there is the potential for third-party liability associated with the workers' compensation claim. The segment will include discussion of special considerations in handling the compensation claim, along with issues surrounding coordinating with and resolving the third party claim

2) ADVICE FOR PRESENTING OR DEFENDING A CONTESTED CATASTROPHIC INJURY CASE AT THE COMMISSION

The Workers' Compensation Commission will discuss the presentation of contested catastrophic injury cases. This session will include practice tips and commentary from the Commissioners as to what types of testimony and/or proof they look for in evaluating your catastrophic injury case.
